Wall-mounted pellet boiler: the biomass heating revolution
For years, talking about a pellet boiler meant thinking of a floor-standing unit, installed in a plant room or a dedicated space.
The reason was simple: traditional pellet boilers were designed mainly as floor-standing appliances. While this still allowed homeowners to enjoy the benefits of biomass heating, it could be a real limitation in homes with little technical space.
But what if a pellet boiler could be mounted on the wall?
That very question gave rise to HEVO, the wall-mounted pellet boiler developed by Magikal and introduced as the world’s first wall-mounted pellet boiler.
A project that redefines the relationship between technology, space and heating: pellets are no longer necessarily tied to a bulky floor-standing boiler, but can also find their place in homes where available space is one of the key design constraints.
HEVO finally brings pellets to the wall.
And in doing so, it opens up a new possibility in the world of domestic biomass heating.
Why were pellet boilers traditionally floor-standing?
Pellets are a biomass fuel that can power automatic, programmable heating systems. For a long time, however, their use in domestic boilers was associated with floor-standing appliances.
This had a very practical consequence: choosing a pellet boiler often meant setting aside a dedicated space.
In a detached house with a sufficiently large plant room, this can be
relatively straightforward. The situation changes, however, when it comes to:
- flats;
- homes with small plant rooms;
- renovations;
- replacement of old heat generators;
- spaces where every centimetre has to be carefully planned.
In these cases, the problem is not necessarily finding a pellet-fuelled technology.
The problem is where to install it.
And this is exactly where the concept of a wall-mounted pellet boiler brings a change of perspective.
HEVO: the pellet boiler, finally wall-mounted.
HEVO was created to overcome one of the main space limitations of traditional configurations.
Its architecture was developed for wall mounting, making use of vertical space
and reducing the floor footprint.
It measures 580 × 900 × 450 mm, weighs 95 kg and has an integrated pellet hopper capacity of 20 kg.
But describing HEVO simply as a compact pellet boiler would not do it justice.
The real innovation is not just about size.
It lies in rethinking the very position a pellet boiler can occupy
within the home.
From the floor to the wall
The shift may seem simple, but it radically changes the design possibilities.
A traditional floor-standing boiler requires available floor space.
A wall-mounted boiler, on the other hand, can use an otherwise unused section of wall,
leaving the space below free.
Not simply a smaller pellet boiler, but one rethought for vertical wall mounting.
A pellet boiler for small spaces: pellets become more accessible
One of the main advantages of this architecture is that pellets become an option even in homes where a traditional floor-standing boiler would be difficult, if not impossible, to accommodate.
HEVO features compact dimensions and wall mounting. The design also includes hydraulic components as standard and independent heating management.
This opens up a particularly interesting prospect, especially in renovation projects.
When working on an existing home, you never start from an empty space. You have to work with what is already there.
Walls, connections, plant rooms and room layout all need to be considered alongside the choice of heat generator.
More available space, without giving up biomass
It is about using space more intelligently.
HEVO embodies exactly this principle: concentrating heat-generating technology on the wall, keeping the floor clear and offering greater flexibility in heating system design.
A new alternative to the wall-mounted gas boiler
There is another aspect that makes the HEVO project particularly interesting: its architecture was also designed with wall-mounted gas boilers in mind.
HEVO uses the same connections as wall-mounted gas boilers, a feature that helps make integration into the heating system easier.
This does not mean that any old gas boiler can automatically be replaced with HEVO: compatibility must always be checked by a professional, based on the existing heating system and the characteristics of the home.
It does mean, however, that switching from gas to pellets can also be achieved with a wall-mounted configuration.
Replacing a gas boiler with a pellet solution
When assessing a new heating system, technology is not the only factor to consider.
It also matters how that technology fits into the home.
A pellet boiler that needs a large dedicated space can be difficult to integrate in certain settings.
A wall-mounted pellet boiler, by contrast, allows a configuration that, in terms of space, is closer to that of traditional wall-mounted gas boilers.
HEVO therefore takes pellets into territory that, in terms of size and installation method, has long been associated mainly with wall-mounted gas solutions.
Not just a compact boiler: a complete system
A smaller footprint does not mean giving up functionality.
HEVO was designed as a complete domestic heating system, with electronic management and components dedicated to integration with the heating system.
The system is designed to manage domestic heating and can be integrated into configurations that also include domestic hot water production.
HEVO is therefore not simply a smaller heat source. It is a wall-mounted pellet heating plant designed to work in tandem with the home’s heating system.
Smart management and smartphone control
The technology does not stop at installation. HEVO integrates systems dedicated to the electronic management of its operation and allows control and management via smartphone.
The result is heating management that fits today’s lifestyles as closely as possible.
The heat generator becomes part of a connected system, where technology and ease of use work together.
Wi-Fi and the electronic control system are complemented by several technologies dedicated to the boiler’s operation, including:
- ROTOX360 self-cleaning burn pot;
- Multi-Touch display;
- Sealed combustion system.
Burn time: pellets become even more practical
One of the most important topics when it comes to pellet boilers is burn time.
HEVO has an integrated 20 kg pellet hopper.
The system can also be combined with an additional 65 kg hopper, connected to the boiler via the automated pellet loading system.
The additional hopper can be positioned up to 5 metres away from the boiler, even on two different levels.
Burn time can reach up to 5 days with the additional hopper, compared with up to one day in the standard configuration.
Actual burn time will naturally vary depending on the heat output used, the heating demand of the home and operating conditions.
The technology inside HEVO
A design revolution requires technology that makes the system easy to use and to integrate into everyday life.
ROTOX360 self-cleaning burn pot
HEVO uses the ROTOX360 self-cleaning burn pot, designed to automate one of the typical maintenance tasks of pellet systems.
Fast ignition
The boiler uses a quartz igniter, integrated into the ignition system.
Electronic management
Thanks to a custom electronic management system, HEVO is designed to interact with different heating systems.
Pellet and combustion control
Pellet level sensor, K-type probe, Wi-Fi and sealed combustion complete a technology package designed to make the boiler’s operation ever more automated and controllable.
HEVO: three heat outputs for different heating needs
The HEVO range is available in three heat output configurations: HEVO 14, HEVO 18 and HEVO 21.
| Model | Heat input | Efficiency | Pellet hopper |
|---|---|---|---|
| HEVO 14 | 14 kW | 93% | 20 kg |
| HEVO 18 | 18.5 kW | 91.5% | 20 kg |
| HEVO 21 | 21.3 kW | 91.7% | 20 kg |
All models share dimensions of 580 × 900 × 450 mm and an 80 mm flue outlet diameter.
The choice of different heat outputs makes it possible to identify the configuration best suited to the characteristics of the home and heating system, through a proper technical assessment.
The future of biomass heating is also vertical
The way we live in our homes has changed.
Spaces are increasingly streamlined, technical areas more compact, and design must successfully combine comfort, technology and functionality.
Heating, too, has to keep pace with this evolution.
That is why HEVO is more than just a new boiler.
It is a project that takes biomass into a different dimension: the wall.
A fully Made in Italy technology patented by Magikal: compact, automated and designed to work in tandem with the home heating system.
The result is a new option for anyone who wants to consider pellets without necessarily being constrained by the bulk of traditional floor-standing solutions.
